Building United | Orange County United Way

Building United

Building United is an innovative partnership between Orange County United Way and Habitat for Humanity of Orange County designed to build the service capacity of Orange County United Way partner agencies through the refurbishment and/or repurposing of their current facilities. Since its launch in 2011, Building United has provided six Orange County United Way partner agencies with low-cost, high-quality repair and refurbishment services.

Partnering to save money and improve services.
Selected projects are eligible to receive matching repair funds from United Way.
Habitat for Humanity of Orange County provides quality construction services and volunteers to complete the facility improvements.

How have agencies benefited?
Casa Youth Shelter, Los Alamitos: Casa Youth Shelter provides temporary shelter for youth in crisis. Building United fixed the shelter's roof and completely remodeled two bathrooms.

Straight Talk, Cypress: Straight Talk helps people struggling with homelessness, substance abuse, or HIV/AIDS. Building United repaired the roof and built a handicapped-accessible bathroom.

Laura’s House, Ladera Ranch: Hundreds of women and children escaping domestic violence receive shelter, counseling, and/or legal service assistance through Laura’s House. Building United fixed shelter windows.

Villa Center, Santa Ana: The Villa Center is a residential recovery program for women. Building United provided new landscaping and storage facilities.

SparkPoint OC at Abrazar, Westminster: Building United transformed a former meeting room at Abrazar into the new SparkPoint OC Center for low-income families; it now houses multiple service providers in one location to help individuals and families become financially stable.

Vocational Visions, Mission Viejo: Vocational Visions provides high-quality program opportunities for persons with developmental and other disabilities. Building United placed new flooring in a large program room and repositioned the furniture for greater accessibility for staff and clients.

Increasing Orange County United Way partner agencies’ capacity to meet client needs and change lives.
