Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee—Congress’ cardinal tax-writing committee—met to consider the reform of the Charitable Tax Deduction. At the hearing, United Way CEOs from across the country spoke out about the dangers of eliminating the deduction, warning Congress of its impact on critical services offered by nonprofits in local communities everywhere—all of which will reduce charities’ capacity to advance the common good.
