Somos Familia Mission and Vision
Orange County United Way Somos Familia is committed to promoting and facilitating economic empowerment within Latino neighborhoods in Orange County.
These neighborhoods include: Pio Pico Lowell in Santa Ana, Las Villas in San Juan Capistrano, Oak View in Huntington Beach and La Colonia - an unincorporated island located on the borders of Garden Grove, Stanton and Anaheim.

FREE COMMUNITY TAX DAYS
Orange County United Way and Somos Familia strives to move families and individuals up the economic ladder by providing programs and services that help them become self sufficient. Last year, Orange County United Way, Legal Aid Society of Orange County and many of our community partners teamed up to help families access the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Cited as the largest anti-poverty program by the National Tax Payer Advocate, this collaborative effort helped 2,158 individuals receive $1,465,109 in EITC credits. This year, we have scheduled more than 50 community tax days and plan to help more than 3,000 hard working familes and individuals claim the EITC.
If you earned less than $39,783 in 2007 you may qualify for the EITC.

Participate in the Multi Ethnic Leadership Institute (MELI)
The Multi-Ethnic Leadership Institute (MELI) is an interactive course designed to enhance the leadership skills of professionals who are interested in diversity issues, as well as becoming more involved with nonprofit organizations. Classes have already started but prepare for next year by viewing the MELI application today.
