Information and Resources for Success By 6 Star-Quality Centers
Success By 6 has developed an array of information and resources for childcare centers to assist in improving quality and to progress from one star level to the next.

Childcare centers participating the in the Star-Quality Rating System may be eligible to apply for funding for classroom equipment and materials through Orange County United Way's Success By 6 initiative. 

Below are other potential sources of funding:
  • Career Incentive Grants

The Child Development Training Consortium offers Career Incentive Grants to eligible undergraduate students who are pursuing careers in childcare and/or child development.

  • CAEYC Early Education Job Board

The California Association for the Education of Young Children offers a Careers in Early Education Job Board exclusively for those working in the early childhood education field.

  • Child Development Permit

The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) strongly believes that an educator's professional growth should be guided by goals and priorities that relate to enhanced competence, performance, and effectiveness in the education of children, and that it should be planned as a cohesive sequence of activities. More and more childcare centers are requiring staff to hold a Child Development Permit issued by CCTC. The permit indicates a commitment to continued education and professional development. Professional Growth Advisors assist early childhood professionals with their on-going educational and development goals.The Success By 6 Star-Quality Rating System also encourages teachers to have the permit and to have increasing levels of education. 

  • Community Resource Libraries

Orange County has several excellent sources for books, videos and other childcare related materials.

 

  • Director Peer Support

Several organizations meet on a regular basis to offer training, resources, and discussion opportunities for early childhood program directors.

Each Orange County public school district has at least one School Readiness Coordinator whose role is to identify gaps in preparing childrn for kindergarten and provide technical assistance and support to the community.

Orange County Child Care and Development Planning Council

The mission of the Orange County Child Care and Development Planning Council is to mobilize public and private resources and foster partnerships to address the child care and development needs of Orange County children, families and providers. The planning council assesses child care needs in the county and sets priorities by zip code for state-funding purposes. Appointed jointly by the County Board of Supervisors and the County Superintendent of Schools, the council meets the third Wednesday of the month at Orange County Department of Education.

Children and Families Commission of Orange County

The Children and Families Commission of Orange County is the result of the approval of Proposition 10 (Tobacco Tax). The organization is responsible for overseeing the allocation of funds received through Proposition 10 towards education; health and child care programs that promote early childhood development, from prenatal to age five. The Commission meets the first Wednesday of the month at the County Hall of Administration.

Children's Home Society of California

The primary Child Care Resource and Referral agency and one of two Child Care Alternative Payment programs operating in Orange County.

Orange County Child Care Consortium

Funded by the California Department of Education, Child Development Division, to support quality improvement activities for child care center providers in Orange County. The Consortium also provides some reimbursement for professional development expenses for early childhood professionals.

National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)

The NAEYC is the nation's largest and most influential organization of early childhood educators and others dedicated to improving the quality of programs for children from birth through age 8. Among the organization’s services are professional development, publications, public policy, and an accreditation program. Affiliate organizations include the California Association for the Education of Young Children and the Orange County Association for the Education of Young Children.
