Housing Day of Caring | Collect & Collate for Point-In-Time Count
December 9, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am
2017 – Point-In-Time Count – Collect & Collate
What:
The Point-In-Time count (PIT) has two main components:
- Counting people who are experiencing homelessness
- Interviewing those who are interested in participating in a survey
Why:
The PIT count and survey provide essential data on our homeless population in Orange County. Orange County receives over 20 million dollars in HUD funding for homeless services; in order to continue receiving these funds OC has to provide the PIT information every 2 years. The information is also used by elected officials, non-profits and private funders to guide the provision of services for the homeless.
How to be involved:
We have three ways to be involved:
- Help to collect items to give away
- Help collate those packages as a thank you to those who participate in the survey
- Volunteer to count with us (sign up for that opportunity here)
This page is where you can commit to collecting items, donate to sponsor these care packages, and/or sign up to help us assemble the packages.
Collect:
As a thank you for completing the survey, participants will be offered a care package of needed items that help make life without a home a little bit easier to navigate.
For this activity we are asking our community and corporate partners to help us collect 800 of the following items:
- Beanies/knit caps
- AA batteries – bundle of 4
- AAA batteries – bundle of 4
- Rain ponchos
- Ziploc bags – one gallon sized
These items need to have been delivered to the Orange County United Way offices by end of day on Friday, December 2nd. Our address is: 18012 Mitchell South, Irvine, 92614. A drop-off box is available in the lobby during business hours from 9am to 5pm.
We know life can be busy! You can also choose to sponsor a package for $15 by entering an amount and clicking on the “register” button using the form below.
Collate:
Once these items are received we will be assembling the packages and getting them ready to be delivered to 2-1-1 to be used for the count in January. If you would like to join us, please respond by selecting a number of volunteers and clicking the “register” button below.
Thanks for being a part of making sure that everyone counts!
