The Growing Risk of Homelessness for Older Women | Community Chat

Learn why more older women are facing homelessness in Orange County and what effective local support and successful outcomes can look like.

Join us for our May Community Chat, a virtual conversation about the growing, and often overlooked, reality of older women facing homelessness in Orange County, and the local responses helping create pathways to stability.

For many women, housing instability later in life can be shaped by rising costs, fixed incomes, health challenges, trauma, or the loss of a partner or support system. Many are experiencing homelessness for the first time, and once housing is lost, the path back to stability can be especially difficult.

We’ll be joined by Brateil Aghasi, Chief Executive Officer of WISEPlace, a local nonprofit that provides housing and support services for women in Orange County. Drawing on her expertise in this work, Brateil will share insight into what is driving this trend, why homelessness can be especially complex for older women, and what successful outcomes can look like when women have access to housing, mental health support, and other critical services.

The conversation will be moderated by Becks Heyhoe-Khalil, Executive Director of United to End Homelessness at Orange County United Way.
