New Board Members Boost United Way’s Leadership Team

United Way Board announces addition of Lawrence Armstrong, Tom Cuce, Adrian Griggs and Joan P. Kelly

IRVINE, CA – Orange County United Way today announced the addition of four new members to its respected board of directors, including:

  • Lawrence R. Armstrong, CEO, Ware Malcomb
  • Tom Cuce, President, South California District, UPS
  • Adrian Griggs, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Pacific Life Insurance Company
  • Joan P. Kelly, Corporate Director, Psomas

These talented leaders all share United Way’s vision to improve the lives of Orange County children and families and look forward to making a more significant impact in their community.

“United Way is honored to attract such talented volunteers, some of the most respected community and business leaders in Orange County,” said Max Gardner, United Way’s President and CEO. “These four stellar individuals are not only passionate about our mission but they strongly believe in our comprehensive efforts to tackle the education, income, health and housing challenges facing our community.”

Each of the new board members, elected by the incumbent Board to serve three-year terms, brings unique perspectives and talents to the United Way board.

Lawrence Armstrong is an accomplished architect and strong business leader well known for his strategic, visionary approach to Ware Malcomb’s management and growth. Selected as winner of Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year in 2008, Armstrong is committed to fiscal discipline to ensure the overall health of the firm while embracing change and rewarding achievement and innovation, resulting in a highly successful, dynamic firm.

As South California President of UPS, Tom Cuce manages a $3.7 billion business unit employing over 20,000 people and serving over 150,000 customers daily. He oversees all operations, customer relations, and revenue management in Hawaii, Southern California, and southern Nevada.

In his role as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Adrian Griggs is responsible for enhancing the coordination of Pacific Life’s Life Insurance and Retirement Solutions divisions, with a focus on growth, innovation, customer strategies, operational efficiencies and growing the asset management business through Pacific Asset Advisors LLC.

Joan Patronite Kelly leads the environmental planning and resource management group for Psomas, one of the nation’s leading environmental planning companies. Working out of the company’s Santa Ana offices, Kelly has over 25 years of experience in the environmental field and is certified through the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
