Keeping up with Felipe, SAGE Scholar Alumni 2012-2013

A SAGE Scholar who worked closely with United Way from 2012-2013, Felipe has since graduated and is on the path to self-sufficiency and success.

Last time we spoke to Felipe, he was preparing to give the commencement speech at UCI, encouraging our next generation to reach their full potential. Known as an academic who spent his college career creating a pathway to success, Felipe is a former SAGE Scholar for Orange County United Way. As a designated UCI student, Felipe demonstrated competence in competitive coursework and a desire to learn all facets of planning a major fundraising campaign to support the local community.

Since serving for two terms as a SAGE Scholar while balancing a double major in Political Science and Music Performance (and three honors programs), our overachiever, Felipe not only graduated, he served as a Fulbright scholar in Colombia and has since started his own nonprofit organization. Felipe is currently serving as a Senate Fellow in Sacramento and has just become the first Marshall Scholar out of UCI over the last 18 years. Recently he shared that he will use this opportunity to earn two Masters’ Degrees at Oxford and Bristol Universities in the United Kingdom!

Before embarking on his post-graduate journey, Felipe shared at last year’s SAGE Scholars banquet how his time at United Way affected him in both his education and career. Felipe impacted us as well and we are so proud of his accomplishments and are so impressed that you are helping other young students to reach for the stars. We wish Felipe the best and know that his future is bright!
