Supporting Orange County Families Impacted by the Garden Grove Chemical Plant Evacuation

Orange County United Way activated the OC Community Resilience Fund to help applicants who were impacted by the Garden Grove incident. Many residents and small businesses experienced unexpected financial and personal hardships.

Due to the overwhelming community response and the current level of available funding, Orange County United Way and 2-1-1 Orange County have now reached the maximum number of applications that can be accepted for this phase of assistance.

As a result, the application process is now closed to new applicants.

A Coordinated Regional Response

Orange County United Way and its 211OC key service are working alongside local city leaders, emergency response partners, community organizations and residents to create a centralized and trusted system of support. Together, we are helping ensure resources are distributed quickly, efficiently, and equitably through one coordinated intake, referral, and recovery process for impacted families.

Orange County United Way is activating the OC Community Resilience Fund to help applicants who were impacted by the Garden Grove incident.

Many residents and small businesses have experienced unexpected financial and personal hardships.

Who is eligible for assistance?

The Fund is intended to support applicants that have been impacted as a result of the recent incident in Garden Grove. 

 

Applicants impacted by the Garden Grove incident in communities that experienced evacuations include:

 

  • Garden Grove
  • Stanton
  • Westminster
  • Cypress
  • Anaheim
  • Buena Park

Residents must:

 

  • Dial 211 and select Option 7 for Community Resilience Fund assistance.
    • Verify that the applicant is located within the impacted evacuation area.
    • Provide proof of residency and a photo ID.

 

Local businesses must:

 

  • Dial 211 and select Option 7 for Community Resilience Fund assistance.
    • Verify that the business is located within the impacted evacuation area.
    • Provide proof of business location and a photo ID.

 

Once eligibility is confirmed, assistance will be issued electronically via email or text message.

Applicants will be asked to provide two forms of documentation to verify identity and residency in the affected geographic areas.

At this time, eligible applicants may receive a one-time benefit of $500 per address, subject to available funding.

No. As funding is limited, assistance cannot be guaranteed. Funds are distributed on a first-come first-serve basis.

Assistance will be provided on a first-come first-serve basis and fund availability. Processing times may vary based on application volume and documentation requirements.

If direct financial assistance is not available, Orange County United Way’s key service, 211OC, can connect residents to a wide range of support services, including:

 

  • Food assistance
  • Housing support
  • Healthcare services
  • Mental health resources
  • Childcare resources
  • Transportation assistance
  • Employment services
  • Other community-based programs
