Donate your used technology devices at our convenient local E-Waste Recycling Drop-Off Event and help our community and our planet. Proceeds from recycled items will support Orange County United Way’s work to ensure local underserved students have the support they need to succeed, struggling OC families gain financial security, and our homeless neighbors find a place to call home. If you have items that are not accepted, please bring these items to your closest County of Orange Household Waste Collection Center. Visit oclandfills.com for more information.
We encourage you to unlock your devices before dropping them off. Many laptops and mobile devices have a ‘mobile device manager/lock’ installed, which prevents us from fully wiping the data in a manner that allows us to reuse any functioning item. We always prefer to wipe clean and reuse/refurbish, as it is one of the R’s of the sustainability circle (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). If we cannot wipe the data, we cannot reuse the item and must destroy it and recycle the applicable parts. If you have questions about how to unlock your device, visit the manufacturer’s website.
DATA DESTRUCTION
Procurri, Orange County United Way’s trusted e-waste recycling partner, will perform “data sanitation” (data erasure/disk wiping) on all donated items. Procurri is committed to data security and ensures that all policies and processes enable strict compliance with data regulations. All data erasure is performed by experienced and vetted technicians at a highly secured facility, inside a locked cage, and under the watch of closed-circuit security cameras. FOR BUSINESSES
We understand that, as a company, you may have a large number of items for recycling. As a solution, we are offering pick-up from your office location in advance of the event. To see if your location/quantity qualifies for pickup, please email LiviK@UnitedWayOC.org and include the following information:
- your full contact information
- requested pick-up location
- a list of assets with quantities
See if your items are on the ACCEPTED ITEMS list. We will reach out to you with additional details regarding tech and electronic recycling options.
FOR RESIDENTS
