The tournament is the only event of its kind in Orange County, and the first-ever competition for good hosted by Orange County United Way that brings top businesses from a variety of industries together for a united cause. With the full roster, more than 320 players will come together to compete and raise funds for United Way’s Healthy Schools Initiative.

“The team at Edwards Lifesciences is excited and ready to compete in this friendly competition for a good cause – making a positive impact on the health and well-being of Orange County’s young students,” said Nick Schleiger, Edward Lifesciences’s team captain. “As the first team to sign up for the Corporate Soccer Cup, we immediately recognized this opportunity as a fun and meaningful way to engage our employees in workplace giving that will provide lasting change for the communities we live and work in.”

The United Way Corporate Soccer Cup round-robin matches will be played at the Orange County Great Park Soccer Complex in Irvine on Friday, May 31 and the semi-final round on Saturday, June 1. Later that day, the final match will be played on the professional field at Orange County Soccer Club’s home venue, Championship Soccer Stadium, following Orange County Soccer Club’s 5:30 p.m. game versus Rio Grande Valley.

“Pacific Life employees are always seeking new ways to get involved in important Orange County issues – especially those that directly impact our young learners and future generation of leaders,” said Keith Lamb, Pacific Life’s team captain. “Playing in the Corporate Soccer Cup gives us a perfect avenue to roll up our sleeves and compete with other top Orange County companies for a good cause.”

The Orange County United Way Corporate Soccer Cup is the newest example of how United Way is engaging with Orange County’s business community through unique corporate social responsibility campaigns to address the community’s most critical issues. The most recent data confirms that 1 in 3 children in Orange County is overweight or obese. At $1,000 per team, the Corporate Soccer Cup has already raised critical funds to provide fitness and nutrition opportunities for young students and their families.

The larger Orange County community can be a part of this fundraising effort, too – by purchasing tickets for the June 1st Orange County Soccer Club pro game at 5:30 p.m. By entering the code UNITED at checkout, a discounted price will be applied and 50% of ticket proceeds will go directly to United Way’s Healthy Schools Initiative. Families can then stay in the stadium to watch the final round of the Corporate Soccer Cup. Tickets can be purchased now at OrangeCountySoccer.com/Corp-Cup.
